Laura and Shelley are clinical hypnotherapists certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. At the Hypnotherapy Academy of America in Santa Fe, New Mexico, they were privileged to train with Tim Simmerman, Gil Boyne and Robert Sapien, MD. Shelley and Laura are co-founders and instructors in Blissborn birth hypnosis program.
Laura and Shelley are registered members of International Board of Hypnotherapy. Fewer than 10 percent of all hypnotherapists are eligible for this designation.
Laura Ross Wood, CHt (505-699-5885)
Before becoming a hypnotherapist (cert. #108-046), Laura graduated from the University of New Mexico with degrees in Speech/Language Pathology and Psychology.
She used hypnosis for the birth of her third child. Comparing a hypnosis birth to her previous two (a Cesarean and a very long Bradley Method labor) she says, "Hypnosis made my third labor short and comfortable. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life! Out of more than 600 births my midwife attended, she said mine was one of the easiest." Laura's mission in life is to help other pregnant women learn how to give birth peacefully and confidently.
In addition to childbirth preparation, Laura offers many hypnotherapy services to her clients in and around Albuquerque, including pediatric hypnotherapy, speech improvement, ending insomnia and anxiety, and pain control.
Shelley K. Black, CHt (505-977-2007)
After discovering the power of hypnosis to alleviate pain, Shelley left a prestigious corporate career to become a hypnotherapist (cert. #108-062). Two natural births — one with breathing techniques alone, and one with self-hypnosis — have inspired her to offer hypnosis training to expectant couples.
Shelley is a graduate of the University of New Mexico’s Biology and English programs.
Shelley offers many hypnotherapy services in her office in Albuquerque, in addition to teaching birth hypnosis and introductory hypnosis seminars. She also specializes in pain control and accelerated healing.
Shelley has been an instructor and practical skills coach at the Hypnotherapy Academy of America since 2008.
